Sometimes, it pays to skimp rather than splurge.
Feeling intimidated by the techni-color aisles filled with cosmetics? You’re in luck—Chin’s done the R&D for you. Here are her favorite budget-friendly finds, all at $10 or less.
“This mascara holds curl and lasts day and night,” says Chin. “Mascara typically has a shelf life of three months, but if you use it every day it could be shorter. Because of that, this isn’t always a product to invest in.”
Buy it: Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara ($6, ulta.com)
“This product is great for moisturizing your lips, but the added bonus is it can also be used on rashes, burns, and to save dry skin,” says Chin. A lip balm that can do double (or triple!) duty? That’s a yes in our book.
Buy it: Lucas Papaw Ointment ($8, amazon.com)
Looking for a reliable spot treatment? Chin swears by this drugstore staple. “Apply this sticker to stubborn zits and they’ll disappear. It’s so convenient for those of us who are always on the go.”
Buy it: Nexcare Acne Absorbing Covers ($8 for 36, walgreens.com)
While celebs are relying on $100-plus mask treatments (just check out Chrissy Teigen’s go-tos), you can replicate red-carpet skin on the cheap. “This mask, which targets deep-pore cleaning and blackhead removal, always makes my skin feel supple, plumped, and hydrated,” says Chin.
Buy it: Elizavecca Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask ($10, amazon.com)
“This is what I use to remove the most stubborn makeup!” says Chin. This drugstore find is a similar quality to higher-end micellar cleansers, she adds—but at a much better price.
Buy it: Garnier SkinActive Micellar All-In-One Cleansing Water & Makeup Remover ($9, ulta.com)
Want to try a trendy shade, but don’t want to drop a ton on it? This lipstick line is for you. “It wears amazingly—and it’s bright, but not jarring,” says Chin. “It’s also a great price point for a lipstick.”
Buy it: Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolor ($6, amazon.com)
Chin loves the eye-catching rose shape of this affordable, effective blush. “The shade isn’t too intense, making it easy to use for those who are new to blush or heavy handed,” she says. Plus, considering how easy it is to drop and break blush, it’s probably for the best that it’s on the affordable side.
Buy it: Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose ($8, target.com)
